Find Out MoreShaila’s holistic approach involves assessing oral health as well as physical and emotional health, to create a complete picture of wellbeing. In support of this, Shaila is continuing her study of Medical Homeopathy at The Royal London Hospital of Integrated Medicine, and she joined the Faculty of Homeopathy after qualifying in 2016. Her interest in complimentary therapies stems from seeking to improve her own wellbeing, using natural remedies and yoga. Aesthetics have always been important to Shaila who also studies drawing in mixed media. Shaila combines her artistry and dental restorative techniques to provide patients with natural looking results. Using the ‘The Vanini Technique’, she takes into account the colour and individual character of teeth to create beautiful smiles, having trained with Lorenzo Vanini in Italy.
For her charity work, teaching jungle medics in Burma, Shaila received “Finalist for Best Charity Project” at the Private Dentistry Awards in 2013.
I feel it is an honour to work as a dentist and be lucky enough to meet a cross section of society, people of all different ages and from all different backgrounds.
I am really motivated by my patients’ stories, and sometimes they have compelled me to take further action. I’ve volunteered for the charity Global Angels in Burma and produced a short video to help demonstrate the amazing work this charity does, training local doctors, dentists and teachers to deliver healthcare and help save lives. Having worked as part of a ‘health’ team alongside a GP, physiotherapists, physiologist and a nutritionist, I am aware that sometimes a combined approach can really benefit patients, such as patients with uncontrolled diabetes, tooth decay and gum disease. The nicest thing a patient has ever said to me was: “It’s been lovely having you touching just part of my life. I warmed to you straight away (and I never thought I would ever say that to a dentist!) and I want to say thank you for just being you, a kind and empathetic person.
